The Eighteen Days of Mahabharat war – Synopsis

Day one – Uttar and Shwet, Sons of King of Viraat were killed by King Shalya and Bhishma respectively. The day belonged to Kauravas.

Day Two – Second day belonged to Pandavas – Satyaki killed Bhishma’s Charioteer (I guess it must be Adhirath – Karna’s Foster Father). Bhishma dazzled.

Day Three – Bhishma was Furious and killed many soldiers of Pandavas.

Day Eight – spelled some misery for Pandavas. Arjuna’s son Iravan was killed.

Day Nine – Krishna looses his patience and was about to break his vow of not taking weapons. Arjuna pacifies him.

Day Ten – Bhishma’s Downfall with Shikhandi as shield for Arjuna.

Day Eleven – Dronacharya as the new Senapati of Kauravas. Arjuna spoils plans of Duryodana to capture Yudhishtir with the help of Susharma and Bhagdatta. Both engage Arjuna. 

Day Twelve – Drona fights brilliantly.

Day Thirteen – Arjuna still engaged with Susharma. In the meanwhile Dronacharya decides to go for “CHAKRAVYUHA”. Abhimanyu enters Chakravyuha – Jayadrath ensures, no Pandavas could enter with him. Abhimanyu fights fiercely and Kills Brihadbala. He also defeats Duryodhana and leaves him alive only because of vow of Uncle Bheem to kill him. Seeing Duryodhana defeat, Karna snaps his Bows, Dronacharya kills his horses and charioteer. All Kauravas attacks him simultaneously and kills him. Before dying, Abhimanyu kills Dushashan’s son Laxman with his mace.

Day Fourteen – Arjuna vows to kill Jaydrath or to kill himself if he fails. By trick of Solar eclipse, finally Arjuna kills Jaydrath. On the other hand, Satyaki kills Bhurisravas. Karna kills Ghatotkacha using Indrastra.

Day Fifteen – Dronacharya kills King Drupad and King Viraat. Bheem kills an elephant namely Ashwathama, Yudhishter confirms the killing of Ashwatthama without mentioning that it was actually an elephant. Dronacharya is confused and misled. He keeps his bow down. Dhristadyumna kills him.

Day Sixteen – Bheem kills Dushasana, tears his arm and drinks his blood. He brings the blood of Dushasana for washing the hairs of Draupadi.

Day Seventeen – In the morning Karna spares Arjuna and Nakul after a fierce battle. Nakul kills Shakuni’s Son Uluka. Nakul also kills three sons of Karna – Chitrasen, Sushen and Satyasen.
Arjuna kills Karna. Shalya becomes commander of Kauravas.

Day Eighteen – Shalya was killed by Yudhishter, as he had a unique ability to grow stronger as the aggression of the enemy grows. However, Yudhishter could control his aggression and kills Shalya. Sahdev kills Shakuni. Bheem kills Duryodhana in the Gadaa-Yuddha after breaking his thighs. This enrages Balram as it is against the rules of war.

Later in the night – Ashwatthama slays five sleeping sons of Draupadi to take revenge. He also kills Shikhandi and Dhristadyumna. He was about to kill the unborn child of Abhimanyu but it was saved by Krishna. Krishna curses Ashwatthama.
